Dave Cushley

Dave Cushley is similarly interested in the process of production and its cyclical aspect.

Where Wallace begins his work with the purpose of controlling it, and to limit it until he allows the material to undermine it, Cushley’s work begins with the intuitive impulse formalised by the reduction of the materials’ purposes and values; erasing all but the trace of a physical act.

Caught in the cycle of deconstruction and reconstruction, Cushley allows his work to achieve a formal limbo, where meaning becomes unfixed and a free play of suggestion and association is set in motion. The tension of the intuitive impulse with the unfixed end result creates work whose presence is both underlined and affirmed by its process.
